Heidi Sklenar, MSW, LICSW
Clinical Social Worker & Psychotherapist
I have been working in mental health since 2007 in a variety of settings, including adult group homes, long term geriatric care, hospice & palliative medicine, as well as adolescent & adult outpatient mental health programming & psychotherapy. I enjoy working with adolescents age 12+ and adults of all ages with a wide variety of mental health diagnoses. I have chosen to extend my practice into equine-assisted therapy after witnessing the many benefits it provides through the experiences of my clients and patients.
I have been around horses since I was a young child and have always found peace in their presence and a heightened sense of mindfulness. Equine-assisted therapy is highly effective in helping clients to develop their emotional regulation skills as horses have an innate tendency to mirror human behavior. Clients are able to develop a better sense of self awareness and a deeper understanding of how emotion is experienced in our physical bodies. This type of therapy allows me to take my clinical training into a "less sterile" environment in order to help clients benefit in a unique and hands-on approach to mental wellness. I look forward to working with you & your support system!
